Lights, Camera, Action: The "Lights, Camera, Action" of our mission would not have been possible without our wonderful sponsors: The Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command, through a cooperative research and development agreement with Nauticos, provided two experts and equipment for the expedition. LCDR Robert Witzleb and Bragg Sherrer from NAVOCEANO came aboard for the expedition. Bragg provided expertise on ISIS (a sonar program enhancement program that makes the sonar transmissions more readable). Robert provided weather forecasting. Both participated by standing watches. Kongsberg Simrad loaned Nauticos three underwater cameras.
This camera is a brand new digital still camera. It's first deep water application was the Earhart Discovery Project. Colour Zoom Camera Kongsberg Simrad made a special 6,000 meter depth housing for our mission. Enhanced SIT Low Light Camera This camera provided NOMAD excellent low-light and long range underwater viewing capabilities. Rockwell Collins loaned HF communications equipment and personnel. Two of their employees, Rod Blocksome and Tom Vinson helped with the original analysis of Amelia Earhart's last radio transmissions. Rockwell Collins then provided them leave from their jobs to go on the two month expedition. While at sea the two stood watches and provided radio communications back home to the crew's families via the Military Affiliate Radio System (MARS). The Collins Amateur Radio Club members back home in Cedar Rapids received the radio calls and patched them into the phone lines to the family members. We were very grateful for the help that Rockwell Collins provided. David Dunlap and Crawford Mackeand also worked on the radio analysis and independently confirmed the conclusions made by the Collins Amateur Radio Club. Crawford Mackeand has published a book entitled "The Friendly Ionosphere" where he uses his study of Amelia Earhart's last radio message as an example. Contact him to purchase his book.
